Considered behaviours can inflict harm without overtly intending to do so – as acts like female genital mutilation (FGM) and other harmful practices directed at girls and women, such as breast binding, make plain. The victim is commodified, to be exchanged in marriage via the market, even if this exchange is presented as a required tradition within the community.
